ASIC Engineer
QualcommJob Title
ASIC Engineer
Role Summary
Work on ASIC/SoC IP development across digital and/or analog domains: define, model, design, optimize, verify, validate, implement, and document blocks or SoC components. The role is on the ASICS Engineering team within Qualcomm's Engineering Group and collaborates with cross-functional teams to meet product requirements.
Experience Level
Entry-level. Candidates typically have 0β2 years of relevant experience; the posting prefers candidates with ~6+ months of hands-on experience with ASIC architecture/design and verification tools.
Responsibilities
Support IP/block or SoC development under supervision; tasks span multiple stages of the design flow.
- Assist in defining architectures, circuit specifications, logic designs, and system simulations from system-level requirements.
- Contribute to digital and/or analog design, optimization, verification, validation, implementation, and documentation of IP or SoC features.
- Support evaluation of design flow from high-level design through synthesis, place-and-route, and timing/power analysis, or equivalent custom layout flow.
- Use EDA/implementation tools (examples: RTL-to-GDS flow, Virtuoso) to execute parts of a block/SoC or IC package design.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation for EDA, IP, and ASIC projects.
- Collaborate with team members to develop implementation strategies that meet system and customer requirements.
Requirements
Core capabilities required for day-to-day work, followed by preferred skills.
- Must-have: Foundational ASIC knowledge and the ability to perform design/verification tasks under supervision.
- Must-have: Verbal and written communication skills sufficient to convey routine technical information and produce documentation.
- Must-have: Ability to follow defined processes and participate in multi-step design tasks with some planning and problem solving.
- Nice-to-have: ~6+ months experience with architecture and design tools.
- Nice-to-have: ~6+ months experience with scripting tools or programming languages to support automation and tool flows.
- Nice-to-have: ~6+ months experience with design verification methods.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with RTL-to-GDS flows, synthesis/place-and-route, timing and power analysis, or Virtuoso/custom layout flows.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
