ASIC Design Engineer Intern

Role Summary

The intern will support senior ASIC design engineers on RTL and hardware design tasks, learning established project and engineering practices while contributing to assigned technical projects. This is an onsite role based at the HPE Sunnyvale office.

Work focuses on practical, hands-on experience in ASIC design, debugging, and tool usage under the guidance of senior team members.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current university students; typically no prior professional experience required beyond coursework or project experience.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include supporting engineering tasks, troubleshooting, and participating in team activities:

• Support senior team members on assigned technical projects.
• Identify and troubleshoot technical issues; propose and help implement solutions.
• Assist with maintaining and updating hardware, software, and related technical systems.
• Attend team meetings, learn project methodologies, and collaborate with colleagues.
• Engage in learning new technologies and methodologies relevant to ASIC work.
• Complete tasks assigned by a supervisor in a timely and efficient manner.
• Participate in periodic reviews to share updates and incorporate feedback.

Requirements

Must-have skills and attributes:

• Interest in ASIC design, including RTL coding concepts or physical design fundamentals.
• Basic programming or scripting knowledge (examples: RTL, Python, Java, C++).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills; collaborative mindset.

Nice-to-have:

• Coursework or project experience with RTL coding or physical design tools.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field; active university enrollment is expected for internship eligibility. Interns often work during school breaks or part-time during the academic year.
