Job Title

APTM Yield Analysis/Device Engineer

Role Summary

Work in the Advanced Packaging Technology and Manufacturing (APTM) Yield Group to identify and drive yield and defect improvements across advanced packaging technologies. The role focuses on analyzing large-scale manufacturing, test and metrology data to locate failure modes and recommend changes to process, test content, and inline metrologies.

The engineer will partner with Process Engineering, Integration, QNR, Product and Test Development, and manufacturing teams to enable technology development, transfer, and high-volume manufacturing (HVM) ramp.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typical experience guidance: Bachelor's degree +4 years, Master's degree +3 years, or PhD (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include data-driven yield improvement, cross-functional collaboration, and reporting.

  • Extract insights from structured and unstructured datasets; synthesize large volumes of data using statistical methods and machine learning techniques.
  • Develop and validate solutions using manufacturing/process knowledge, test/sort data, inline metrology, and statistical problem-solving tools.
  • Independently drive recommendations and influence the yield-improvement roadmap.
  • Analyze relationships between electrical and physical failures; apply knowledge of FIFA, DFT, Sort/Test, integration/process flow, and defect systems.
  • Assess inline defect metrology capabilities and detection limitations; use metrology inputs for root-cause and yield analysis.
  • Partner with upstream, downstream, and cross-functional teams to support technology development, transfer, and ramp into HVM.
  • Prepare clear, timely reports and presentations summarizing yield status and device health; define and own actions to improve yield.
  • Support occasional domestic and international travel as required.

Requirements

List below separates core (must-have) requirements from desirable (nice-to-have) skills.

Must-have:

  • Proven experience in data analysis using tools such as JMP, Python, or equivalent data engineering software.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills and experience applying statistical methods to manufacturing data.
  • Experience with data manipulation, datamining, databases, and data visualization for large datasets.
  • Practical knowledge of test/sort data and methods for linking electrical fails to physical root causes (FIFA, DFT, Sort/Test concepts).
  • Understanding of inline defect metrology and factory defect systems relevant to yield analysis.
  • Ability to independently drive technical recommendations and influence cross-functional stakeholders; strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and teamwork skills; tolerance for ambiguity and flexible approach to responsibilities and hours.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on application of advanced statistical techniques or machine learning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with product design, circuit/architecture concepts relevant to yield analysis.
  • Prior experience in packaging, foundry, or HVM environments.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree with 4+ years relevant experience, OR Master's degree with 3+ years relevant experience, OR PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical discipline. The posting explicitly allows equivalent experience obtained through industry work, internships, coursework, research, or other practical experience.
