Job Title

Applied Machine Learning Engineer - AI for VLSI Design

Role Summary

Join the Circuit Solutions Group to develop AI-driven software for VLSI circuit design. The role focuses on combining automation algorithms, deep learning models and agentic workflows to accelerate pre- and post-silicon design automation and improve quality of results (QOR).

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical background: MS (or equivalent experience) with 3+ years or PhD with 1+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver applied ML and algorithmic solutions within a cross-functional team to advance electronic design automation.

  • Work on pre-silicon and post-silicon custom circuit design tasks, layout optimization, and SPICE correlation.
  • Research and implement novel EDA techniques and ML approaches for chip design problems.
  • Design and develop agentic AI solutions and integrate them into design workflows.
  • Analyze datasets, formulate and validate hypotheses, build models and algorithms, and iterate until target QOR is achieved.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Proven expertise in Combinatorial Optimization, Agentic AI and large language models, and applying ML to chip design and EDA.
  • Strong software and algorithm skills: data structures, applied math, machine learning, and production-quality coding in Python and C++.
  • Experience developing and validating ML models on engineering datasets and driving measurable QOR improvements.

Nice-to-have

  • Prior experience in large-scale EDA software development.
  • Experience with CMOS layout drawing, schematic-to-layout translation, and DRC/LVS compliance.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; self-starter with a focus on continuous learning.

Education Requirements

MS (or equivalent practical experience) in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 3+ years of experience, or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 1+ years of experience. Equivalent practical experience acceptable where specified.
