Applications Engineering Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Applications Engineering Engineer
Role Summary
Provide hands-on technical support to customer design teams to resolve physical verification and parasitic extraction issues using ICV and StarRC. Work with customers and internal R&D to reproduce problems, validate fixes, and develop scalable signoff methodologies that enable successful tape-outs.
Role combines debugging complex verification/extraction failures, methodology development, customer-facing support during tape-out, and internal knowledge sharing.
Experience Level
Entry-level - 0 to approximately 2 years of relevant experience. Strong new graduates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on customer technical support, debugging, methodology, and collaboration with R&D.
- Provide direct technical support to customers using ICV and StarRC to improve signoff readiness and support tape-outs.
- Debug complex physical verification and parasitic extraction issues, including DRC, LVS, RC modeling anomalies, and timing correlation problems across advanced process nodes.
- Develop and refine signoff methodologies to improve accuracy, reduce runtime, and support full-chip analysis at scale.
- Collaborate with customer engineering teams and senior colleagues during critical tape-out phases to analyze and resolve blocking issues.
- Work with Synopsys R&D to reproduce customer issues, validate fixes, and communicate requirements.
- Document technical solutions, common failure modes, and methodology improvements for reuse across the field organization.
- Provide technical training and guidance to customer teams on verification, RC modeling, and signoff best practices.
- Leverage AI-driven techniques to accelerate issue analysis and methodology development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and competencies; follow-on items listed as preferred.
- Entry-level to ~2 years of experience in applications engineering, semiconductor design, physical verification, or parasitic extraction.
- Foundational knowledge of physical verification and parasitic extraction and experience with EDA tools.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix and scripting (Tcl or Python).
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and evidence-based analysis skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication and customer-engagement skills; ability to adapt technical detail to the audience.
- Teamwork, learning agility, ownership, and the ability to work with incomplete information.
- Preferred: hands-on exposure to ICV and/or StarRC and experience with signoff workflows and timing correlation across process nodes.
- Preferred: Korean and English language skills for customer engagement and collaboration with global teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. No specific certifications required.
