Applications Engineer, Design Implementation

Role Summary

Provide hands-on technical support for customers using Synopsys Design Implementation and Verification tools. Work on ASIC physical design flows from floorplanning through tapeout to diagnose issues and deliver solutions.

Based in Ho Chi Minh City on the Applications Engineering team supporting regional customers and collaborating with R&D across regions.

Experience Level

Entry-level (early-career), approximately 0–3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer support, debugging, and technical enablement for physical design flows:

• Provide hands-on technical support for floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and timing closure.
• Own customer technical cases from initial investigation through resolution; analyze design data and debug tool behavior.
• Collaborate with R&D teams to escalate complex issues and validate fixes or new features.
• Help customers optimize implementation methodologies using Fusion Compiler, ICC2, and related signoff tools.
• Create and refine technical documentation, application notes, and best practices based on customer engagements.
• Proactively follow up with customers to ensure solutions are effective and schedules are met.

Requirements

• Must-have: Understanding of ASIC physical design and implementation methodologies (floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, static timing analysis).
• Must-have: Working knowledge of Verilog and digital design fundamentals.
• Must-have: Comfortable in Linux/Unix environments and scripting in Tcl, Python, Perl, or Shell.
• Must-have: Strong written and verbal English communication skills for customer-facing work.
• Nice-to-have: Exposure to Synopsys Fusion Compiler, ICC2, or related signoff tools.
• Nice-to-have: Prior application engineering or other customer-facing technical support experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
