Applications Engineer

Role Summary

The Applications Engineer will provide technical support and drive design-in activities for BLDC motor driver and motor-control products. The role supports customers and internal teams through debugging, creating reference materials, evaluation-board design, and silicon testing.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support, develop reference materials, and assist product evaluation and testing.

  • Debug customer issues using evaluation boards and customer hardware; perform on-site customer support as needed.
  • Review customer application schematics and PCB layouts; advise on design and layout issues.
  • Respond to customer inquiries via email and forums and collaborate with vendors on evaluation boards and GUI development.
  • Support new product development by participating in silicon testing, providing product recommendations and competitive analysis, and reviewing datasheets for accuracy.
  • Design and validate evaluation boards to support correlation and evaluation activities.
  • Create application notes, training materials, and deliver training to FAEs and customers.
  • Conduct failure analysis of returned units; perform bench analysis and coordinate with design and test teams to report findings.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Must-have: 4+ years of relevant experience in applications or field engineering for motor-control or power-semiconductor products.
  • Must-have: Strong technical knowledge of BLDC motor drivers and motor-control systems.
  • Must-have: Good understanding of semiconductor device fundamentals and analog, power, and mixed-signal circuit fundamentals.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with test and measurement equipment and instrumentation; experience debugging hardware in lab and customer environments.
  • Must-have: Strong communication and customer-facing skills; ability to work cross-functionally with systems, design, test, and applications teams.
  • Preferred: Experience with software tools such as C, C++, Python scripting, and data tools like Spotfire.
  • Preferred: Hands-on PCB design experience and ownership of complex system-level debug activities.
  • Preferred: Experience creating training materials, delivering technical training, and performing failure analysis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Bachelor’s Degree listed). No other degree, field-of-study, certification, or equivalent-experience language was specified in the posting.
