Job Title

Analog/Mixed-Signal SerDes Design Engineer (Intern)

Role Summary

Join the AMD SerDes Technology Group to design high-speed wireline and optical transceivers in advanced CMOS processes. The role focuses on analog/mixed-signal circuit design for ADC-based receivers, DAC-based transmitters, or silicon photonics transceivers.

The position is research-driven and collaborative, requiring hands-on circuit implementation, link-level simulation, and modeling for high-bandwidth electrical and optical links.

Experience Level

Entry-level - internship. No explicit years of experience specified.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include design, simulation, and implementation tasks required to deliver high-speed transceiver building blocks.

  • Define circuit architectures optimized for high-bandwidth electrical and optical links.
  • Perform link-level simulation and verification using Matlab and/or SPICE.
  • Design and model on-die RF passive components (inductors, capacitors) and/or optical structures.
  • Design analog/mixed-signal circuit blocks (e.g., DAC, SAR-ADC, sample/hold, analog front end, PLL, reference generation, clock distribution).
  • Implement and adapt circuits for advanced FinFET CMOS process nodes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, document designs, and iterate based on simulation and test results.

Requirements

Core technical skills and practical experience required or strongly preferred.

  • Must-have: Experience in analog/mixed-signal circuit design and simulation for high-speed SerDes-related blocks (ADC, DAC, PLL, clocking circuits).
  • Proficiency with CAD tools for circuit simulation and design implementation (SPICE-based simulators, layout/DRC flow).
  • Hands-on CMOS circuit design experience in advanced technology nodes.
  • Practical experience with link-level simulation (Matlab and/or SPICE) and system-level verification.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and clear communication for collaborative engineering.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with wireline and optical transceiver building blocks, CTLE, high-speed SERDES-specific design techniques, or silicon photonics transceiver components.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
