Job Title
Algorithm Engineer - Deep Learning
Role Summary
Develop and deploy deep learning and generative AI models for image processing and computer vision applications in semiconductor process control. Work with product and engineering teams to translate product requirements into validated models and production-ready components.
Position operates within the Broadband Plasma Division (BBP) and Global Products Group focused on metrology and inspection systems for advanced IC manufacturing.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical background: Ph.D. in a relevant field (entry acceptable with doctorate) or Master’s degree with ~3+ years of related experience; demonstrated research/industry impact through publications, patents, or significant open-source projects.
Responsibilities
Main responsibilities include designing, implementing, evaluating, and optimizing deep learning and GenAI models for domain datasets and production constraints.
- Survey and adopt state-of-the-art deep learning and generative AI approaches relevant to product needs.
- Map product feature requirements to modeling requirements and architectures.
- Design and prototype DL/VLM/VFM models (detection, segmentation, multimodal) for image-processing tasks.
- Train, tune, validate, and benchmark models on domain datasets; perform A/B testing on real data.
- Analyze performance bottlenecks and design modules to improve accuracy, throughput, and cost.
- Optimize models for runtime and reduced-precision inference where applicable.
- Collaborate and communicate results with cross-functional teams; present technical work in professional settings.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Hands-on experience applying deep learning (object detection, segmentation, multimodal models, foundation/vision models) to real-world problems.
- Demonstrable impact via technical publications, industrial patents, or significant open-source projects.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one additional language (C++, Java, Rust, or Go).
- Proficiency in at least one DL framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or equivalent).
- Experience evaluating and validating model performance using defined metrics; conducting A/B tests.
- Ability to design and optimize models for throughput, cost, and lower-precision inference.
- Effective written and verbal communication; ability to present technical concepts to peers and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel up to ~10%.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with DL model optimization for reduced precision (e.g., FP8, FP4).
- Experience with vision foundation model pretraining or post-training workflows.
- Experience in semiconductor process control or related manufacturing inspection domains.
- Familiarity with GenAI coding tools or engineering practices.
Education Requirements
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative field preferred. Minimum: Doctorate (academic) degree (0 years required) or Master’s degree with ~3 years of related work experience. Related quantitative fields acceptable; equivalent industry experience is considered where noted in the posting.
