Algorithm Developer
Applied MaterialsJob Title
Algorithm Developer
Role Summary
Develop algorithms and system-level solutions for in situ metrology and real-time process control for Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) used in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. Work on product development from characterization & feasibility (C&F) through production release, collaborating with hardware, software and process teams.
Role is based in Santa Clara, CA and involves customer site work (approximately 10% travel).
Experience Level
Mid-level: approximately 3–5 years of relevant industry or research experience is expected.
Responsibilities
Deliver algorithmic and system solutions for CMP metrology and process control and support product integration and release.
- Develop in situ metrology and process control products to provide real-time control on CMP tools.
- Define system requirements in coordination with internal teams.
- Design and run C&F experiments; develop and validate algorithms for process control.
- Specify hardware/software integration and support system-level debugging.
- Drive transfer from C&F to production releases and act as technical resource for CMP metrology topics.
- Collaborate across teams to troubleshoot complex process and customer issues.
- Produce internal and external technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Travel to customer sites to deploy and validate new technologies and products.
Requirements
Key technical skills, behaviors, and preferred experience.
- Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting ability.
- Proficiency in programming for data analysis and algorithm development (examples: Python, MATLAB, Java).
- Familiarity with statistical data analytics and signal processing.
- Experience developing or working with control systems (preferred).
- Exposure to semiconductor processes or metrology is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in teams; self-motivated and able to meet deadlines with moderate guidance.
Education Requirements
M.S. with ~3–5 years of experience or Ph.D. in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Exceptional Bachelor’s degree holders may be considered; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
