Job Title

AI Software Engineering - Workloads Validation Intern

Role Summary

As an AI Software Engineering Undergraduate Intern on the Software and AI Pathfinding team within Intel's Data Center Group, you will develop and validate compiler technologies for heterogeneous AI workloads targeting Intel CPUs and GPUs. The role focuses on optimization, scheduling, and verification of AI kernels to improve runtime performance and enable research and product work.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Student intern. Active student status is required and must be maintained for at least one year. Typical experience: 0–1 years (internship, academic projects, or coursework).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include improving compiler infrastructure and validating workload performance and correctness:

  • Design and implement compiler optimization techniques such as algebraic rewrites and hierarchical scheduling.
  • Integrate novel abstractions into MLIR-based compilation pipelines for AI workloads.
  • Develop resource-aware models and apply constraint evaluation to optimize scheduling decisions.
  • Prototype and verify equivalence checking methods using probabilistic and symbolic approaches.
  • Exploit Intel architecture features (AMX, AVX-512) to improve performance on CPUs and GPUs.
  • Document technical findings and present results; opportunity to contribute to open-source projects and publications.

Requirements

Technical skills and experience expected for successful candidates.

  • Must-have: Advanced Python development skills in compiler or tooling environments; practical experience demonstrated via internships, coursework, or academic projects.
  • Must-have: Understanding of compiler concepts, programming languages, or AI optimization techniques.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with MLIR/LLVM ecosystem tools.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with autotuning techniques or cost modeling for compiler performance optimization.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of tensor compiler frameworks (e.g., Triton) and exposure to probabilistic algorithms or SMT solvers (e.g., Z3).
  • Nice-to-have: Prior publications or technical projects in compilers, program synthesis, or AI optimization; exposure to agentic AI solutions.

Education Requirements

Active student status required. Candidates are expected to be pursuing a Bachelor's degree (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field) or a Master's degree in a relevant field. The posting allows Bachelor students with 0–1 years of hands-on experience gained through internships, projects, or coursework, or a Master’s degree with no prior professional experience. Academic focus on compilers, programming languages, or AI optimization is preferred.
