AI/ML Software Engineer Intern - Strategic Student Program (Fall 2026)

Role Summary

Siemens EDA Office of Technology is recruiting a student intern to support research and engineering work in AI and machine learning for electronic design automation (EDA). The intern will work on data preparation, model development, agent and server components, and tooling to apply AI to real EDA problems.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Student intern (Fall 2026). Role is intended for current undergraduate or graduate students.

Responsibilities

Work with the team to develop AI/ML solutions for EDA use cases. Typical activities include:

• Collect, clean, and preprocess large structured and unstructured EDA-related datasets.
• Develop and implement machine learning models and algorithms, including LLMs, classification, and regression models.
• Implement MCP servers and agent components to support identified functionality.
• Perform prompt engineering for PCB design process automation.
• Create, debug, and maintain Python code; perform VBScript creation and debugging as needed.
• Build data visualizations and dashboards to communicate results.
• Keep current with best practices and recent advances in data science and AI.

Requirements

Key skills and attributes required or strongly preferred for productive contribution.

• Must-have: Proficiency in Python and experience with data cleaning and preprocessing.
• Must-have: Basic understanding of statistical concepts and data analysis techniques.
• Must-have: Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective verbal/written communication.
• Must-have: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Nice-to-have: Exposure to AI agent frameworks, LLMs, or prompt engineering.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with data visualization and dashboarding tools.
• Nice-to-have: Basic knowledge of electronics or electronic design.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with VBScript and server/agent development.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field (student status required for the Strategic Student Program).
