Job Title
Advanced Packaging Reliability Lab Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Stress Testing and Reliability Laboratory's Environmental Stress Tool Engineering team to develop, operate, and maintain environmental stress systems used to evaluate packaging and silicon reliability (thermal cycling, temperature extremes, humidity). The role supports package qualification and technology development for advanced packaging technologies including EMIB, Foveros, Hybrid Bonding, and Co‑Packaged Optics.
This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on delivering reliable test environments, high‑quality data, and equipment support for DC power and measurement systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical candidates have 3+ years of relevant experience; a PhD with no industry experience is also acceptable per minimum qualifications.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include operating and improving environmental stress test systems and supporting measurement infrastructure.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot environmental stress systems used for reliability evaluation (thermal cycling, temperature/humidity exposure).
- Characterize equipment performance and investigate excursions or failures.
- Develop and improve methods, specifications, procedures, and training for test systems.
- Implement, analyze, and maintain statistical process control for test data and equipment performance.
- Translate reliability stress requirements into fixturing, test setups, and new tool development.
- Support and calibrate DC power and measurement systems including programmable power supplies, DMMs, thermocouple arrays, and related electronics.
- Coordinate with tool vendors and field service engineers; collaborate with operations, planning, and facilities teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of DC electrical systems: operation, troubleshooting, and calibration of programmable DC power supplies and associated instrumentation.
-
Must-have: Practical experience with electrical measurement and data acquisition equipment such as digital multimeters and temperature measurement systems (thermocouples, RTDs) and temperature monitoring hardware.
-
Must-have: Hands-on ability to diagnose and resolve issues with electrical hardware, wiring, connectors, relays, and control systems.
-
Must-have: Familiarity with calibration practices, measurement accuracy, uncertainty, and equipment verification supporting readiness for quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001 / ISO 17025).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with DAQ systems and instrumentation communication protocols (GEM 300, Ethernet, GPIB, RS-232) and automated test equipment.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with scripting, automation, or statistical software for measurement/control/data analysis (examples: LabVIEW, Python, JMP, SQL).
-
Nice-to-have: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; sensor integration experience.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related scientific field with 3+ years of relevant experience, OR PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related scientific field with 0 years of experience. (No other degree or certification language specified.)
