Join Cisco's Service Provider SI team in San Jose to design and analyze high-speed signal and power delivery subsystems for next-generation switch products. The role focuses on channel and power‑integrity modeling, PCB and package analysis, prototype validation, and cross-discipline collaboration to ensure reliable high-speed hardware.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical experience guidance from the posting: Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include modeling, analysis, and hands-on support across signal and power integrity for PCB, package, and system-level designs.
- Model and simulate high-speed links including I/O, IC packages, and system interconnections.
- Analyze power delivery networks and perform electromagnetic (EM) modeling of complex structures.
- Perform pre-route and post-route signal integrity analysis for PCB and ASIC designs.
- Develop SI/PI design guidelines, test plans, and technical reports.
- Select PCB materials and work with vendors to resolve design-for-manufacturability (DFM) issues.
- Support prototype bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting activities in the lab.
- Collaborate with hardware teams including HW design, eCAD, mechanical, power, EMC, and diagnostics groups.
- Contribute to the SI/PI technology roadmap and evaluate new tools and techniques.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items are listed separately.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, EM theory, transmission line theory, channel modeling, and SI/PI analysis.
-
Must-have: Hands-on lab experience with VNAs, TDRs, and high-speed oscilloscopes for measurement and validation.
-
Must-have: Proficiency with simulation and analysis tools such as HFSS, ADS, MATLAB, Cadence PowerSI/DC, Allegro, Simbeor, and HSpice; experience with 3-D field solvers and PI simulation tools.
-
Must-have: Practical experience with high-speed NRZ and PAM4 SerDes channels, high-speed PCB and package development, and PI analysis.
-
Must-have: Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to work with cross-functional hardware and vendor teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with optical transceiver module types and related requirements; prior vendor/DFM engagement experience.
