Principal Engineer - Analog Design
Role Summary
The Principal Engineer will focus on advancing analog circuit design in high-speed interfaces, specifically for SerDes IP. This role involves ownership of architecture, design and implementation of analog macro-level circuits while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring rigorous verification methodologies are applied.
Experience Level
Senior-level; minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with a PhD or 10+ years with a Master's degree in a related field.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities include:
- Own the architecture, design, and implementation of analog macro-level circuits for SerDes IP.
- Track and review the technical progress of sub-block owners to ensure project alignment.
- Interpret SerDes standards to develop detailed analog specifications.
- Optimize circuit implementations for power, area and performance targets.
- Propose design and verification strategies using advanced simulator features.
- Oversee physical layout to minimize impacts on circuit performance.
- Collaborate closely with digital RTL engineers on calibration and control algorithms.
- Present simulation data and technical insights during reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and document methodologies for internal use.
- Consult on electrical characterization and testing within the SerDes IP portfolio.
Requirements
Candidate must possess the following:
- PhD with 7+ years or MSc with 10+ years in SerDes/high-speed analog design experience.
- Expertise in transistor-level circuit design with strong CMOS fundamentals.
- Proven experience with TX, RX, and Clock paths in SerDes architectures.
- Strong leadership background in guiding teams through design projects.
- In-depth knowledge of SerDes sub-circuits such as equalizers and phase-locked loops.
- Advanced skills in optimizing FinFET CMOS layouts.
- Proficiency with EDA tools and SPICE simulators.
- Programming experience in TCL, Perl, C, Python, and MATLAB.
Education Requirements
Doctorate degree or Master's degree in Engineering or related fields.
