Lead ASIC Design Verification Engineer (Amazon Leo)

Role Summary

Amazon Leo is developing a low Earth orbit satellite network to provide reliable internet connectivity. This role is part of the Amazon Kuiper / Leo team in Sunnyvale working on digital SoCs for satellite communication systems.

The engineer will lead verification for digital communication SOC blocks, develop verification environments and test suites, and collaborate with design and systems teams to ensure functional correctness and system-level interoperability.

Experience Level

Senior — requires significant prior verification experience; posting requests 7+ years in verification with preference for experience in communication systems.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing verification environments, tests, and automation for digital SOCs used in communication systems.

• Design and implement verification environment to test RTL against reference Matlab/C models.
• Develop detailed test plans, write tests, run regressions, and report status and metrics.
• Write C/C++ tests targeting embedded CPUs and develop tests for FPGA and emulation platforms.
• Perform formal verification of complex blocks to ensure functional correctness.
• Collaborate with digital design and communication-systems teams for system-level verification using UVM, SystemC, and DPI-C.
• Create and maintain a highly automated regression environment and verification database.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and core skills.

Must-have:

• 7+ years of ASIC/RTL verification experience, preferably in communication systems.
• 5+ years practical use of UVM, C/C++, and scripting for verification automation.
• Experience with FPGA and emulation platforms and running regressions.
• Proven ability to develop test plans, implement tests, and report verification progress.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with Matlab for modeling and reference implementations.
• Experience with formal verification techniques.
• Extensive digital verification experience (10+ years preferred).

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related technical field. Preferred: Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field. (Equivalent practical experience may be considered.)
