Job Title
Test Engineer - Radiation Effects
Role Summary
Evaluate Analog Devices components for radiation performance (Displacement Damage, Total Ionizing Dose, Single Event Effects) to support release of aerospace-grade products. Work within the Space Group of Radio Frequency Semiconductors on a variety of devices including RF components, voltage references, power, and data converters.
When radiation testing is not scheduled, contribute to standard test development from concept through production release and communicate results to aerospace customers.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Experienced). No specific years of experience stated.
Responsibilities
Key duties include planning and executing radiation and lab test activities, automating test and data workflows, and supporting product release.
- Plan, manage and execute Total Ionizing Dose testing (High Dose Rate and Low Dose Rate) for products under development and released products.
- Perform Single Event Effects (SEE) testing and develop Python scripts to program, monitor, and mitigate device upsets during heavy ion or proton testing.
- Migrate tests from legacy platforms to radiation test-facility platforms.
- Automate laboratory equipment, data collection, and reporting; develop software and hardware test fixtures.
- Perform laser scans to identify sensitive transistors and provide feedback for design improvements to meet radiation performance targets.
- Support standard test development projects when radiation-related activities are not scheduled.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, lab experience, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; design experiments and analyze complex data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with aerospace customers.
- Organizational skills, time management, and ability to manage multiple tasks against tight schedules.
- Experience with lab test equipment: spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators.
- RF measurement experience (S-parameters, IP3, P1dB, I/Q baseband, mixer LO nulling).
- Programming experience with LabVIEW and Python; familiarity with Visual BASIC, HTML, or C/C++ is beneficial.
- Prior experience with ATE platforms (NI LabVIEW/TestStand, Roos Cassini, Teradyne UltraFLEX) is a plus.
- Willingness to travel for testing and customer interaction (up to ~25%).
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) preferred.
