Job Title

Staff Design Engineer - Sustaining, HBM

Role Summary

The Staff Design Engineer - Sustaining will support Micron's Heterogeneous Integration Group (HIG) on High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products. The role is focused on diagnosing and resolving silicon, system, and customer issues, implementing design updates (ECOs/spec changes), and maintaining product quality across the HBM lifecycle.

This position works closely with design, product engineering, process, packaging, and system teams to drive technical issues to closure and improve yield, reliability, and verification practices.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typical expectation: 6+ years with a BS or 4+ years with an MS in a relevant engineering field (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include debugging, cross-functional coordination, and sustaining design support for HBM products.

  • Lead end-to-end silicon, system, and customer debug; perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Product Engineering, Process Integration, Packaging, and Technology Development to prioritize and resolve issues.
  • Implement and verify ECOs and specification changes; support sustaining design maintenance.
  • Identify and remediate yield, reliability, performance, and quality issues.
  • Support customer bring-up, qualification, and system-level debug as needed.
  • Capture sustaining learnings to improve debug efficiency, verification methodologies, and design quality.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role; preferred skills are listed separately.

  • Strong understanding of DRAM/HBM architecture and high-speed memory interfaces.
  • Experience in digital and/or custom design and verification methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience in silicon debug or post-silicon validation and debug tools.
  • Proven ability to independently drive complex technical issues to closure and coordinate across teams.
  • Experience supporting customer system bring-up and qualification activities.

Nice-to-have / Preferred:

  • Experience with HBM, DDR, LPDDR, or other high-speed I/O systems.
  • System-level debug and silicon-to-system correlation experience.
  • Knowledge of timing and margin analysis, signal and power integrity.
  • Experience with DFT, mBIST, and test-mode debug.
  • Programming/scripting for debug automation (Python preferred) and strong cross-functional communication skills.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years of experience, or Master of Science (MS) with 4+ years of experience. Fields referenced include Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. (Posting does not specify alternative certifications; equivalent practical experience is not explicitly stated.)
