Staff Application Engineer — Power IC Validation
Role Summary
Execute validation and characterization of power management integrated circuits to demonstrate performance, robustness, and fit for customer use-cases. Work closely with Product Engineering, R&D, Firmware, and Marketing to translate customer requirements into product features and provide roadmap feedback.
Experience Level
Senior. The role expects experienced engineers (see Education Requirements for formal experience guidance).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on validation, cross-functional collaboration, automation of measurements, and customer-facing technical support.
- Plan and execute product validation and characterization to verify performance and robustness against customer use-cases.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering, R&D, Firmware, and Marketing to translate customer requirements into product features and roadmap input.
- Develop test plans, automate bench measurements (Python/C) where applicable, analyze results, and produce concise reports for release decisions and customer communications.
- Create and review customer-facing collateral: datasheets, application notes, user guides, design guidelines, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Support silicon bring-up and customer configuration (GUI/firmware/PMBus as applicable), including loop compensation guidance, sequencing, and telemetry setup.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

Must-have: Solid understanding of control loop theory and its application in power converters.

Must-have: Proficiency with lab equipment including network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and waveform generators; experience automating lab testing.

Must-have: Proficiency in Python, C, or similar programming languages for test automation and data processing.

Must-have: Experience with PMBus, AVS or other protocols used in power management products.

Must-have: Proficiency in data analysis using Excel, JMP, or equivalent tools.

Must-have: Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-have: Experience with multiphase DC/DC converters.

Nice-to-have: Experience with digitally enabled power management products.
Education Requirements
Minimum Bachelor’s degree plus ~5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree plus ~3 years. Employer notes BS+8 or MS+5 is preferred. Degrees expected in Engineering or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical/technical experience in the power management industry.
