Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer — Melbourne, FL
Role Summary
The Senior FPGA Engineer designs, implements, and verifies FPGA/CPLD-based hardware for high-reliability aerospace and ground-vehicle embedded systems. The role supports development from requirements through system integration, qualification testing, and production support within an electrical engineering team.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5–10+ years of relevant FPGA/digital hardware experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities cover FPGA design, verification, and integration across the development lifecycle.
- Generate requirements and perform RTL design, synthesis, and timing closure.
- Develop test benches, run simulations, and perform requirements-based verification.
- Perform static timing and power analysis; support prototype evaluation and design reviews.
- Support qualification testing, system integration, production, and obsolescence activities.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure electrical integrity and FPGA integration on circuit cards.
- Prepare engineering estimates and documentation; follow internal processes and tools.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for day-one effectiveness, plus concise nice-to-have items.
- Proven HDL-based FPGA/CPLD design experience (VHDL and/or SystemVerilog); experience with UVM testbenches.
- Hands-on hardware build, test, and system integration experience; strong debugging skills for hardware/firmware interactions.
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink for FPGA code generation and verification workflows.
- Knowledge of digital electronic devices, circuit design principles, and static timing/power analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to work independently and in teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
- Nice-to-have: Timing Designer, HyperLynx, Synplify, ModelSim/QuestaSim experience and familiarity with Microsemi/Xilinx/Lattice/Altera toolchains.
- Nice-to-have: experience with serial/memory interfaces (I2C, SPI, CAN, ARINC, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429, RS422/RS485, AFDX), DO-254 knowledge, high-speed PCB/card design, requirements/configuration-management tools (e.g., DOORS), and formal verification techniques.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is specified (Minimum Training/Education: BSEE). The posting specifies experience trade-offs: typically a bachelor's degree plus 5–10+ years' relevant experience, or a master's degree with approximately 3+ years' relevant experience.
