Senior Quality Management System Engineer
Role Summary
Individual contributor responsible for leading and shaping the enterprise Quality Management System (QMS) for Altera's FPGA semiconductor design and development organization across automotive, aerospace/defense/government (ADG), industrial, and consumer markets.
Main mission: define and execute QMS certification strategy, ensure audit readiness and continuous improvement, and own end-to-end issue management and traceability for customer, supplier, and internal quality issues. Bay Area salary range: $194,100–$215,000 USD (role dependent).

Responsibilities
The role owns QMS strategy, audit governance, and issue management across global engineering and operations teams.
- Lead enterprise QMS certification strategy and execution (planning, implementation, and governance) across locations.
- Drive audit programs: internal audits, external certification/surveillance audits, cross-site alignment, and continuous audit readiness.
- Establish and report QMS performance metrics (KPIs) and manage management review processes.
- Own customer, supplier, and internal issue management framework and systems; ensure end-to-end traceability from defect identification to resolution.
- Enable structured problem solving (8D, 5-Why), containment, risk/impact analysis, and retrospective continuous improvement.
- Partner with global teams to align QMS implementation, vendor/consultant/certification body engagements, and corporate policy.
- Drive data-driven quality insights and improvements, and manage processes for product containment and customer-facing responses.
Requirements

- Minimum 10 years' experience in semiconductor quality/QMS roles or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven experience building and implementing enterprise QMS conformance and scalable processes across multiple sites.
- Deep working knowledge of industry QMS standards and their implementation in semiconductor organizations.
- Proven track record leading internal and external audits and working with certification bodies and customers on audit activities.
- Experience designing and operating issue management systems and KPI-driven quality programs.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, project management, and written/verbal communication skills to influence without direct authority.
- Preferred: familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Windchill), JIRA, JAMA, and other enterprise quality/traceability tools.
- Preferred certifications/skills: ASQ quality engineer/manager or Six Sigma Black Belt; experience with FPGA products and automotive/ADG markets.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Electronics, or related field). The posting specifies a minimum of 10 years' semiconductor industry experience. Required certification: ISO 9001 / AS9100D Lead Auditor. Preferred certifications include ASQ quality engineer/manager or Six Sigma Black Belt.
