Job Title
Senior Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join Amazon Leo's ASIC team to define and implement digital SoCs for Low Earth Orbit satellite communications and ground gateways. The team designs modems, high-speed interfaces, embedded processors, and DSP solutions in advanced process nodes.
The role focuses on back-end/physical implementation strategies and execution for communications chips that enable 5G-like links between space and ground.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 7+ years of relevant ASIC physical design and implementation experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver physical implementation and methodology for high-speed communications SOCs; collaborate with RTL, architecture, RF/analog and system teams.
- Collaborate with RTL/logic designers on architectural feasibility, and PPA tradeoffs.
- Drive IO/Core block implementation: synthesis, floorplanning, bus/pin planning, place-and-route.
- Develop and execute power and clock distribution strategies, congestion analysis, and timing closure.
- Perform IR drop analysis, physical verification, ECOs, and sign-off activities.
- Create and improve physical design methodologies and flows.
- Evaluate third-party IP and provide integration recommendations.
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary and multi-site teams to deliver tapeout-ready designs.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience, plus legal authorization to work in the U.S. (per export control).
- 7+ years of ASIC implementation experience covering synthesis, STA, DFT, and place-and-route for deep sub-micron nodes.
- Hands-on experience with floorplanning, pin/bus planning, power/clock mesh design, congestion mitigation, and timing closure.
- Experience performing IR drop analysis, physical verification, ECOs, and tapeout sign-off.
- Proven ability to develop physical design methodologies and work with third-party IP.
- Authorization to work in the United States: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. lawful permanent resident (Green Card), refugee, or asylee (per export control requirements).
-
Nice-to-have: experience integrating RF/analog/mixed-signal blocks with digital top flows, UPF low-power flow exposure, and experience in multi-site/multi-team environments.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline is required or equivalent practical experience. Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related field is preferred.
