Job Title
Senior FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Join a multi-disciplinary Electronic Systems Development team to design and implement prototype embedded systems for sensor, communication, and navigation applications. The role focuses on rapid prototyping and delivery of FPGA- and ASIC-based components for real-time, high-throughput signal-processing and software-defined radio platforms.
Experience Level
Senior — typically candidates meet one of: 5+ years related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 3+ years with a Master’s; or a PhD with relevant experience. Prior experience contributing independently on complex FPGA/embedded projects is expected.
Responsibilities
The position centers on hands-on hardware and firmware development for embedded platforms. Core responsibilities include:
- Rapid prototyping of sensor, communication, and navigation systems on embedded FPGA/SoC platforms.
- Design and implementation of FPGA/ASIC components and IP integration.
- Implementing algorithms in hardware and software on embedded systems.
- RTL development, synthesis, simulation, and timing closure activities.
- Verification, testing, and deployment of embedded designs.
- Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to meet SWaP-C and performance goals.
- Documenting designs, maintaining version control, and supporting test efforts.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, credentials, and constraints:
- Proven experience with RTL languages (VHDL, Verilog/SystemVerilog) and RTL synthesis/simulation tools.
- Strong foundation in programming and embedded systems development.
- Experience integrating third-party IP and working across design, verification, test, and deployment phases.
- Familiarity with best practices for design verification and test (including simulation-based verification).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work on cross-functional teams.
- U.S. citizenship required to be considered for a security clearance; able to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance.
- Position requires on-site presence a minimum of four days per week.
Nice-to-have / preferred skills:
- Experience with reconfigurable SoC platforms (AMD Xilinx MPSoC, RFSoC, Versal; Intel Agilex SoC).
- Scripting and build tools (Tcl, Python, CMake) and familiarity with EDA ASIC tools (synthesis, P&R).
- Knowledge of processor interfaces (memory-mapped peripherals, interrupts), signal-processing concepts, and MATLAB.
- Experience with verification methodologies (UVM/OVM) and hardware emulation platforms (Cadence Palladium, Siemens Veloce).
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications: typically 5 years related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience — or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Preferred: M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
