Role Summary

Senior/Principal firmware engineer responsible for developing VHDL/Verilog FPGA firmware and integrating it with hardware and systems. The role focuses on producing robust, verifiable firmware for safety-critical or embedded applications and supporting integration and verification activities.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum 5 years of professional firmware/HDL development experience; experience at a principal level preferred.

Responsibilities

The role combines hands-on HDL development with systems integration and technical documentation.

• Design, implement, and maintain VHDL/Verilog firmware for FPGA-based systems.
• Collaborate with Systems and Hardware teams to define interfaces and integration plans.
• Perform integration, verification, and debugging of firmware on target hardware.
• Use FPGA toolchains for synthesis, simulation, timing closure and bitstream generation.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, design artifacts, and verification evidence.
• Ensure firmware meets DO-254 and other applicable safety or compliance requirements.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship of junior engineers.

• Nice-to-have: Scripting for automation (e.g. Python), familiarity with version control and CI/CD for firmware.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with hardware bring-up, lab testing, or system-level verification.
