Job Title

Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Design, develop, and productize ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS mixed-signal ICs for high-speed optical transceivers (100G–1T). The role sits on the Acacia mixed-signal IC design team and collaborates with digital/DSP, system, package and module design teams.

This is a hybrid position based in San Jose, CA with an in-office cadence of three days per week.

Experience Level

Senior. Expect several years of industry experience designing high-speed analog/mixed-signal integrated circuits (typical senior hires have 8+ years of relevant experience).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include architecture, design, verification and production readiness of mixed-signal IC blocks for optical transceivers.

  • Architect, design, layout-review, measure and productize mixed-signal CMOS IC blocks.
  • Lead design efforts for large, complex chip blocks; mentor engineers and track deliverables.
  • Participate in peer reviews and establish design methodology from concept through production.
  • Collaborate with package and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
  • Develop high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits and support product bring-up and qualification.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.

  • Proven design, simulation and measurement experience of high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers, data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock transmission/propagation, operational amplifiers, programmable gain amplifiers, equalization.
  • Experience with high-speed serial link and electrical transceiver applications (backplane/cable) is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with mixed-signal simulation and verification tools (example: Spectre/APS/SpectreX) and circuit-level analysis.

Nice-to-have:

  • FinFET process experience.
  • High-frequency/layout experience for passives (inductors, transformers, transmission lines) and custom transistor layout.
  • Floorplanning for power/ground and mixed-signal routing; design for manufacturability.
  • ESD laboratory practices and experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Matlab, EMX, and AMS simulations.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications: BSEE with 12+ years of experience, or MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent practical experience. Field: Electrical/Electronic engineering or closely related technical discipline. (Degrees and equivalent experience summarized here; other sections do not repeat degree requirements.)
