Job Title
Senior Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Work within the Mixed-Signal IC design group to architect, design, layout, measure and productize ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog and mixed-signal blocks for high-speed optical transceivers used in data center and telecom networks.
The role is part of Acacia's ASIC-focused team and requires cross-functional collaboration with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to deliver production-ready ICs.
Experience Level
Senior level. This is a senior IC design role; see Education Requirements for degree and experience guidance.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of complex analog/mixed-signal blocks from concept through production and mentoring other engineers.
- Architect, design, layout, validate and productize analog/mixed-signal CMOS circuits and blocks.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; track deliverables and participate in peer reviews.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop high-speed AMS circuits (serial links, PLLs, drivers, ADC/DAC-related blocks) and support lab characterization and bring-up.
- Provide design methodology and guidance from conception to production; mentor junior team members.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and domain experience.
- Proven experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed ICs and mixed-signal circuits.
- Hands-on experience in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (serializers/deserializers), data converters, voltage regulators, output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock transmission/propagation, op-amps, programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization.
- Experience with high-speed transceiver design considerations, including signal and power integrity.
- Proficiency with mixed-signal simulation and verification workflows.
- Track record of floorplanning and layout for mixed-signal ICs; custom transistor layout experience preferred.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
- Experience with FinFET technology and high-frequency passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and ESD laboratory practices experience.
- Experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Matlab, EMX and AMS mixed-signal simulations.
Education Requirements
Degree and experience combinations specified in the posting: BSEE (or Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering) with 12+ years' relevant experience; MS with 8+ years' relevant experience; PhD with 5+ years' relevant experience; or equivalent practical experience.
