Job Title

Semiconductor Design Engineer

Role Summary

Performs design, layout, simulation, and verification of semiconductor and memory circuits. Works on schematic block design (memory array, control logic, address decode, datapath, internal test logic), layout optimization and reliability verification to meet power, speed, and die-size targets.

Part of an engineering team responsible for developing test chips, silicon validation, and DFM-driven design optimizations. May telecommute part-time.

Experience Level

Entry-level — typically around 2 years of relevant experience; a Master’s degree may be accepted in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

Key day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Design and verify analog and mixed-signal circuits and memory subsystems.
  • Perform circuit simulation and modeling, including parasitic extraction into simulation flows.
  • Develop and optimize layout for performance, cost, and manufacturability (DFM focus).
  • Debug and characterize circuits in silicon; support test-chip definition and silicon validation.
  • Review product requirements and translate logic diagrams into device definitions and specifications.
  • Collaborate across teams to align design architecture with CMOS manufacturing flows and reliability goals.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Analog and mixed-signal circuit design and verification.
  • Circuit simulation experience with industry-standard tools (e.g., SPICE, Verilog).
  • Understanding of array core architectures, memory circuits, and datapath/control logic.
  • Circuit debug, characterization, and layout design optimization experience.
  • Familiarity with CMOS manufacturing flows and DFM considerations.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field plus approximately 2 years of relevant experience; alternatively a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field may be accepted in lieu of the experience requirement.
