Job Title
RF/mm-Wave CMOS Power Amplifier Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design RF CMOS/mm-wave power amplifiers for SATCOM, Wi‑Fi, and cellular applications from concept through prototype to production. Work within a cross-functional engineering team to integrate PA designs into larger SoC systems and packages, with responsibility for simulation, layout verification, measurements, and thermal/EM analysis.
Experience Level
Mid-level — requires 3+ years of experience in RF power amplifier design (up to 60 GHz).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and develop RF power amplifiers for SATCOM, Wi‑Fi, and cellular applications.
- Collaborate with system, digital, and package teams to integrate PA designs into SoCs and modules.
- Build prototypes and perform laboratory verification to validate performance and reliability under real-world conditions.
- Prepare and present design reviews covering IC, package, EM simulation, measurement data, and thermal considerations.
- Support tapeout, layout verification (PEX), and prepare designs for production.
- Maintain and improve RF design processes based on measurement and simulation feedback.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 3+ years of RF power amplifier design and development experience up to 60 GHz.
- PA tapeout experience using SOI or SiGe technologies.
- Strong analog circuit design skills including IC layout, PEX extraction, and electromigration analysis.
- Proven ability to simulate linear and non-linear PA behavior to meet targets for gain, linearity, output power, and bandwidth.
- Deep understanding of differential and single-ended PA architectures, matching networks, biasing, and operating modes.
- Electromagnetic knowledge of passive components such as couplers, baluns, and matching networks.
- Proficiency with design and simulation tools (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Keysight ADS, Keysight SystemVue, Siemens Calibre).
- Experience with EM simulators such as HFSS, Momentum, or EMX.
- Familiarity with RF transceiver architectures and modulation schemes (QPSK, APSK, QAM).
- Willingness and ability to work on-site full-time at the Atlanta, GA office.
Nice-to-have:
- RF/mm-wave PA design experience in Ku, K, Ka, Q, or V bands.
- Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (spectrum analyzer, vector signal analyzer/generator, network analyzer) and lab measurement techniques.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
Education Requirements
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field with emphasis on RF/microwave integrated circuit design.
