R&D Engineering Senior Engineer

Role Summary

Senior engineer on the R&D physical design and Static Timing Analysis (STA) team. Design and implement delay-calculation and STA algorithms to improve power, performance, and area (PPA) in Synopsys' physical design flows and tools.

The role collaborates with cross-functional teams to advance process-node methodologies and product features for high-performance silicon development.

Experience Level

Senior — at least 5 years of professional work experience.

Responsibilities

Contribute to algorithm development, tool features, and validation for STA and physical design.

• Design and analyze delay-calculation and STA algorithms for implementation optimization and PPA improvement.
• Enhance product features and user experience in Synopsys physical design flows and EDA tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support next-generation process nodes and design methodologies.
• Implement, validate, and benchmark algorithmic improvements for high-performance chip targets.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and design/architecture sessions.

Requirements

Core technical skills and professional experience required; preferred items listed separately.

• Must-have: Strong programming fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, numerical methods) and hands-on software development experience.
• Proficient reading and analysis of C/C++ code and practical development in C/C++.
• Exceptional debugging skills and scripting proficiency (Python, Tcl, Perl or similar).
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in selecting methods and techniques for solutions.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with Synopsys STA or EDA tool/CAD flow development.
• Knowledge of delay calculation and STA algorithm design for PPA optimization.
• Familiarity with Fusion Compiler or similar physical design tools.
