Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Lead development of simulation models and analysis tools to evaluate network interface cards (NICs), switches, and future system architectures. Work within a cross-functional hardware and software engineering team to validate performance, scalability, and fault-tolerance of proposed architectures.

Focus on building reliable, efficient simulation infrastructure and actionable performance analysis to guide architectural decisions.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 10+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain simulation models for NICs, switches, and system-level architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs and scenarios that reflect realistic network behavior.
  • Create tooling for performance analysis, visualization, and reporting.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of candidate architectures.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reproducible, efficient simulation runs.
  • Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to inform design trade-offs.

Requirements

Required skills and experience.

Must-have:

  • 10+ years of experience in network or system-level simulation, architecture analysis, or related fields.
  • Proven proficiency in C++ for simulation modeling and Python for data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design principles.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical findings.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience modeling NICs, switches, or ASIC/VLSI interactions.
  • Experience building visualization and performance analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with evaluating fault tolerance and large-scale system scalability.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
