Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Develop and maintain system-level network simulation models to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance for NICs, switches, and future system architectures. Work on simulation motifs, tooling, and analysis to inform network and hardware architecture decisions.

This position is designated Remote/Teleworker and reports to cross-functional teams including network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineering groups.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 10+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on building realistic simulations and analysis tooling to validate network architectures and guide design trade-offs.

  • Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and system-level network architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs to drive realistic network scenarios and workloads.
  • Create tools for performance analysis, metrics collection, and visualization.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and changes.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reproducible, maintainable simulation results.
  • Collaborate with network architects, ASIC/SoC designers, and software teams to validate architectural decisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of essential and desirable qualifications.

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in simulation/modeling using C++ and data analysis using Python.
  • Must-have: Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs and optimization strategies for performance and scalability.
  • Must-have: Experience creating analysis and visualization tools for performance data.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical results.
  • Nice-to-have: Background in VLSI/ASIC or NIC hardware design, familiarity with hardware simulation frameworks or network traffic generators.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with large-scale simulation environments, distributed simulation, or performance profiling tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field β€” or equivalent practical experience.
