Job Title

Principal Engineer

Role Summary

Senior RTL design engineer responsible for architectural investigations, design, verification collaboration and delivery of multimedia IP (image signal processors, display processors, video codecs) within Arm's Systems Media IP group. The role leads unit-level development or multiple-unit hierarchies and drives design quality, maintainability and performance across the IP.

Senior β€” typically 15+ years of ASIC/RTL design experience, including technical leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Accountable for delivering hardware modules and influencing IP-level architecture, quality and cross-team processes.

  • Own unit-level development or lead multiple-unit hierarchy or act as technical lead for an IP.
  • Design and verify hardware modules implementing imaging algorithms and/or video codecs.
  • Perform architectural investigations, modelling, specification, design, simulation and support backend implementation.
  • Work closely with verification, modelling, software driver, architecture and research teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Identify and implement process or methodology improvements to increase hardware design efficiency.
  • Mentor and support engineers on the team.

Requirements

Essential technical skills and experience required for the role, followed by desirable traits.

  • 15+ years of ASIC RTL design experience; experience with Multimedia IP (ISPs, DPUs, VPUs) or related IP (CPU, GPU, interconnect, memory controllers, high-performance peripherals) preferred.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog, Verilog or VHDL.
  • Practical experience across all design stages: concept, specification, implementation, testing, documentation and support.
  • Proficiency with UNIX and scripting (Tcl, Perl, Python or shell scripting).
  • Proven technical and/or team leadership experience.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of advanced image-processing or AI/ML-based computer vision algorithms (local tone mapping, noise reduction, motion estimation, transform coding, etc.).
  • Experience with industry-standard interfaces and protocols (AMBA, DDR specifications).
  • Experience with functional safety for automotive (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) and safety-related development.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, C or C++ programming.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA) and continuous integration flows.
