Job Title

Principal Design Engineer - Sustaining, HBM

Role Summary

The Principal Design Engineer - Sustaining will lead cross-functional efforts to resolve complex silicon and system issues for high-volume HBM products. The role focuses on silicon debug, product quality, system-level stability, and driving engineering improvements into future HBM generations.

Works with design, product, test, and system teams to own issue resolution, verification of ECOs, and customer escalations during the sustaining phase.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience guidance given: 8+ years with a BS or 6+ years with an MS in related technical fields (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include leading debug and driving cross-team execution to maintain product quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Lead silicon and system root-cause analysis and resolution for complex issues across multiple domains.
  • Define debug strategies and serve as technical authority for HBM sustaining activities.
  • Coordinate execution across design engineering, product engineering, test, and system teams to close issues and deliver ECOs.
  • Own design health during sustaining: plan and verify ECOs, and ensure long-term maintainability.
  • Identify systemic yield, reliability, or performance issues and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Manage critical customer escalations and support system bring-up to ensure timely resolution.
  • Provide feedback to influence architecture, design, and verification methodologies for future products.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for the role. Preferred items listed separately.

  • Deep expertise in HBM/DRAM architecture and high-speed memory interfaces.
  • Proven experience in silicon debug, system-level analysis, and root-cause resolution.
  • Ability to lead complex technical problems across cross-functional teams and drive resolution.
  • Strong background in digital and/or custom design and verification, including sustaining verification.
  • Experience owning design health during production/sustaining phases and implementing ECOs.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience with DFT, mBIST, and test-mode debug.
  • Deep understanding of timing, margining, SI/PI, system-level behavior, and silicon correlation.
  • Scripting and automation skills (Python).
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex silicon/system issues and influence on architecture or product decisions.

Education Requirements

Qualification guidance in the posting: 8+ years of experience with a BS, or 6+ years with an MS, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
