Job Title
Memory Circuit Designer
Role Summary
The Memory Circuit Designer will design, model, verify, and optimize embedded memory (SRAM/ROM) circuits for SoC products. The role works within the hardware engineering team and interfaces with layout, verification, process, and test teams to meet performance, power, and reliability targets.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Candidates typically have 2β4+ years of hardware or memory circuit design experience; the posting lists degree-dependent minimums and indicates 3+ years preferably in memory design.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Architect, design, and optimize embedded SRAM and ROM circuits for target processes and IPs.
- Develop and apply compiler or automation approaches for embedded memory generation and integration.
- Characterize cell and array behavior (SNM, write margin, cell current, standby current, data retention) and analyze variability impacts.
- Create and validate critical-path and timing models (RC, C, Pi, ladder, distributive and other modeling approaches).
- Collaborate with layout, process, test, and verification teams to ensure manufacturability and yield; support bring-up and test activities.
- Document design choices, trade-offs, and measurement results; present findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Hands-on memory circuit design experience, preferably with embedded SRAM/ROM; posting indicates 3+ years preferred.
- Experience using compiler-style approaches or automation for embedded memory development.
- Strong understanding of bit-cell characteristics and memory array behavior (SNM, WM, currents, retention).
- Knowledge of process variability and its effect on memory design and margin analysis.
- Solid skills in digital/memory circuit design and layout considerations.
- Experience with critical path modeling and timing analysis methods.
- Good understanding of semiconductor physics and affinity for IC technology and IP design.
- Effective collaboration and communication with cross-functional engineering teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field plus 2+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in the same fields plus 1+ year of hardware engineering experience; OR a PhD in a related field. The posting also highlights a preference for 3+ years of memory-design experience.
