Interconnect Model Development/Support CAD Staff Engineer / Senior Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and release interconnect models and extraction flows used by parasitic-extraction EDA tools to predict electrical behavior of layouts. Collaborate with process technology and scribe TEG teams to design test structures and calibrate models, coordinate with external EDA vendors, and support Micron designers in tool usage.

Position operates within Micron's CAD/interconnect modeling function and involves cross-site coordination; role is based in Hashimoto, Japan.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include:

  • Build and release interconnect models from process-technology data for use by parasitic extraction tools.
  • Work with global process-technology teams to gather interconnect stack details and ensure model accuracy.
  • Develop methodologies and design scribe TEGs to properly calibrate interconnect models.
  • Create and implement new parasitic-extraction flows from layout; collaborate with EDA vendors as needed.
  • Debug and troubleshoot EDA vendor tool issues and coordinate resolutions with vendors.
  • Provide support to Micron designers and users of parasitic extraction tools and associated flows.

Requirements

Required and preferred skills:

  • Must-have: Experience with chip design environments (schematic and layout tools).
  • Experience using layout parasitic extraction tools (e.g., Synopsys StarRC).
  • Basic knowledge of semiconductor process technology and DRC rules.
  • Programming experience in Python and Cadence SKILL.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to debug EDA tool issues.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Perl and C/C++.
  • Experience using AI agents to assist engineering tasks.
  • Willingness and ability to learn missing skills as needed.
