Job Title

Hardware & Silicon Validation Principal Engineer

Role Summary

Lead validation strategy and execution for complex data-center SoCs, ASICs, and hardware platforms in the Custom Cloud Solutions Hardware Validation Group. Responsible for post-silicon bring-up, functional and system validation, electrical characterization, and customer-facing qualification and support.

Collaborate across silicon, firmware, board, manufacturing, and program teams to ensure product reliability and qualification to industry standards.

Experience Level

Senior — typical experience noted: 10–15 years with a Bachelor's degree, or 5–10 years with a Master's/PhD.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include ownership of validation strategy, execution, and customer engagement across the product lifecycle.

  • Define validation architecture, test plans, coverage metrics, and sign-off criteria aligned to product requirements and industry standards.
  • Own post-silicon bring-up, functional validation, stress testing, and corner-case validation across PVT conditions.
  • Lead board bring-up, system integration, link training, and protocol validation for interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, and DDR.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and coordinate corrective actions across SoC, PHY, firmware, and board domains.
  • Act as technical point of contact for customers through qualification, deployment, and post-release support.
  • Lead debug war rooms, produce technical reports, and document workarounds and best-practice guidelines.
  • Conduct customer trainings on protocols, validation workflows, and issue triage.
  • Partner with SoC/ASIC, PHY, Firmware/Software, Diagnostics, System Architecture, Manufacturing/CM, and Program Management teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional experience.

  • Proven experience leading hardware or post-silicon validation for complex SoCs, ASICs, boards, or systems through multiple product cycles.
  • Hands-on expertise validating high-speed interfaces: DDR4/DDR5, HBM, PCIe, Ethernet, SerDes.
  • Strong understanding of SoC architecture, hardware–software interactions, and system-level dependencies.
  • Experience validating designs against industry standards (JEDEC, PCI‑SIG, IEEE) and internal specifications.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, traffic generators, and power measurement tools.
  • Experience with production test development, manufacturing qualification, and failure analysis (FA/PA) — preferred.
  • Prior customer-facing experience (field support, FAE, or validation leadership) and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 10–15 years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with 5–10 years of relevant experience.
