Job Title

FPGA RTL/FW Development Undergraduate Intern

Role Summary

Join the Platform Engineering Board team to support RTL design, embedded firmware, and validation of FPGA-based development kits and validation boards. The role focuses on implementing and verifying digital logic and firmware to enable platform-level features and system bring-up.

Work closely with FPGA architecture, board design, and silicon engineering to deliver robust platform solutions and reduce technical risk through prototype development and validation.

Experience Level

Entry-level — Undergraduate intern (no professional experience required).

Responsibilities

Perform design, implementation, and validation tasks under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Design and validate RTL using Verilog or VHDL; assist with simulation, synthesis, and timing analysis.
  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++ for platform verification.
  • Support board bring-up, debugging, and system-level validation on FPGA development kits and validation platforms.
  • Develop and maintain firmware and software tools for embedded systems and verification.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and system engineering teams to integrate and verify features.
  • Participate in test planning, execution, and issue debugging; document technical designs and validation results.
  • Contribute to prototype development and risk-reduction activities.

Requirements

Minimum technical skills required; preferred skills listed separately.

Must-have:
  • Basic knowledge of digital logic design and computer architecture.
  • Familiarity with RTL design using Verilog or VHDL.
  • Basic programming skills in C or C++ for embedded systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, debugging, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Nice-to-have:
  • Familiarity with FPGA development flow (simulation, synthesis, implementation) and tools such as Quartus.
  • Experience with FPGA development boards and lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer).
  • Exposure to embedded systems, device drivers, or hardware-software integration.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Tcl) for automation.

Education Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (undergraduate status required).
