Job Title

Forward Error Correction Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement forward error correction (FEC) and DSP schemes for optical coherent transceivers, focusing on reliable hardware realizations and validation. Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to analyze algorithms, build simulation models, and produce HDL implementations for ASICs.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting does not specify required years of experience.

Responsibilities

The role combines algorithm analysis, simulation, HDL implementation, and validation for FEC/DSP blocks used in optical transceivers.

  • Design and analyze state-of-the-art error correction techniques and DSP algorithms for optical coherent transceivers.
  • Develop and run floating-point and fixed-point simulation models to evaluate performance and trade-offs.
  • Implement, optimize, and maintain HDL code (Verilog/SystemVerilog) targeting ASICs.
  • Verify and validate designs, focusing on reliability and error-rate targets.
  • Collaborate with system, verification, and hardware teams to integrate FEC/DSP blocks.
  • Profile and optimize implementations for area, power, throughput, and latency.
  • Document designs, test plans, and simulation/verification results; present findings to stakeholders.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required; preferred items listed when applicable.

  • Must-have: Proven experience programming in C, C++, and Python.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with Verilog and/or SystemVerilog for hardware implementation.
  • Must-have: Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior experience with FEC/DSP schemes, floating- and fixed-point simulation workflows, or advanced digital architecture design and testing.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience targeting ASIC implementations and working with cross-functional silicon teams.

Education Requirements

Engineering degree in electronics, computer software, or telecommunications.
