Entry-Level FPGA Design Engineer

Role Summary

Develop digital designs and firmware for Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) used in controller and RF/digital site equipment for government and public safety customers. Work on the Digital team implementing FPGA code, test infrastructure, and device interface documentation.

Contribute to products that support public safety by delivering reliable FPGA implementations and verified interfaces.

Experience Level

Entry-level / New Grad (position type: New Grad). Suitable for candidates with 0–2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include FPGA and firmware development, test automation, and hardware debugging.

• Capture and translate requirements into FPGA implementations and firmware.
• Develop code in VHDL, Verilog, and C for FPGA-based controllers.
• Write test scripts in Python and execute diagnostic procedures.
• Perform digital interfacing and timing analysis for FPGA designs.
• Debug hardware using logic analyzers, Ethernet/network analyzers and other diagnostic equipment.
• Document device interface specifications and test results.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical abilities.

• Proficiency in C and VHDL and/or Verilog.
• Experience with low-level Python scripting for test and diagnostics.
• Solid understanding of digital design and FPGA interfacing.
• Ability to perform timing analysis and debug designs using logic and Ethernet/network analyzers.
• Strong problem-solving and hands-on debugging skills with diagnostic equipment.

Nice-to-have: academic or project experience developing FPGA and digital designs.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering required. Coursework or project experience in FPGA development and digital design is preferred. (Position listed as New Grad.)
