Job Title
Director, Analog Mixed-Signal Design - Optical
Role Summary
Lead and manage a team designing high-speed optical front-end analog ICs (TIAs, optical modulator and laser drivers) across SiGe BiCMOS and advanced FinFET technologies. Responsible for technical direction, cross-functional collaboration with systems/DSP/silicon photonics teams, and delivery from architecture through silicon validation and production.
Experience Level
Senior / Director level. Requires substantial leadership and hands-on analog/RF design experience; typical candidates have 10+ years of relevant industry experience plus proven management of engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Lead the analog/RF design organization and ensure high-quality, timely delivery of optical interface ICs.
- Provide technical leadership for TIAs and optical modulator/laser driver design.
- Define circuit architectures and interface specifications with systems, DSP, and silicon photonics teams.
- Manage team resourcing, performance reviews, mentoring, and career development.
- Oversee post-silicon validation, qualification, and transfer to mass production.
- Establish and enforce rigorous analog design methodologies and best practices.
- Coordinate across layout, packaging, and systems teams to resolve integration issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, leadership experience, and practical abilities required for the role.
- Proven experience managing and mentoring a team of analog designers on high-speed broadband projects.
- Hands-on transistor-level analog design expertise and RF/high-speed broadband design (10 GHz+).
- Track record as chip lead and success in silicon bring-up and taking chips to mass production.
- Experience with EDA CAD tool flows and oversight of analog custom layout.
- Ability to translate chip-level specifications into architecture and work with multidisciplinary teams and customers.
- Strong communication, presentation, documentation, and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment and managing ambiguity.
Nice-to-have:
- Direct experience with Optical TIAs or optical modulator drivers.
- Experience in SiGe BiCMOS and/or advanced FinFET node designs.
- Experience with AGC loops, CTLE design, high-precision analog circuits (bandgaps, DAC/ADC), and package/system integration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering with associated experience expectations listed in the posting: Bachelor's degree with 15+ years related experience; Master's degree with 10–12 years related experience; PhD with 8–10 years related experience.
