Job Title
DFT Engineer
Role Summary
The DFT Engineer designs and deploys Design-for-Test solutions for complex SoCs to enable manufacturable, high-yield silicon. The role works with design, verification, and backend teams to implement ATPG, MBIST, LBIST, scan insertion, and analog test features and to optimize test flows and pattern generation.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 4+ years of hands-on DFT experience on SoCs.
Responsibilities
Principal responsibilities include delivering DFT architectures, generating optimized test patterns, and supporting silicon bring-up and production debugging.
- Implement DFT architectures including ATPG, MBIST, LBIST, scan insertion, and analog test features under manager guidance.
- Execute test pattern generation and optimization to minimize test time while maximizing fault coverage and yield.
- Apply standardized DFT methodologies and flows to ensure repeatable results across projects.
- Integrate DFT requirements into RTL and physical design stages via cross-functional collaboration.
- Develop automation scripts (TCL, Python, Perl) for pattern creation, validation, and analysis.
- Analyze test data from silicon bring-up and production; support root-cause debugging and identify improvements.
- Document DFT implementations, test results, and reusable IP for team use.
- Perform tasks in accordance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for the role.
- 4+ years of hands-on DFT experience on SoCs, including ATPG, MBIST, LBIST, and scan-based testing.
- Proficiency with DFT/ATPG EDA tools such as Synopsys TestMAX, Cadence Modus, or Mentor Tessent.
- Experience with scripting for automation and data analysis (Python, Perl, TCL).
- Knowledge of optimizing test time, fault coverage, and ATPG pattern efficiency.
- Strong analytical skills for debugging complex test failures.
- Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with automotive ASIL flows or high-volume manufacturing test challenges.
- Proven contributions to process improvements and tool evaluations.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
