Job Title

ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Work on verification of next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communications ASICs within Cisco’s Acacia group. The role is a senior technical contributor and leader responsible for designing verification plans, developing verification environments, and ensuring design quality for complex ASIC projects.

Position is on a hybrid schedule with onsite work at Cisco’s Maynard, MA office three days per week and collaboration across cross-functional teams working on DSP ASICs and photonics modules.

Experience Level

Senior — experienced technical lead. The posting targets senior engineers (see Education Requirements for specific experience/degree equivalencies).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning, implementing, and overseeing ASIC verification activities and mentoring team members.

  • Lead development of detailed verification test plans and metrics.
  • Design and develop verification testbenches and environments.
  • Apply advanced verification techniques (OOV methodologies, coverage-driven verification) to complex designs.
  • Supervise and coordinate execution of test plans across the verification team.
  • Review verification code and coverage results; track closure of verification goals.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers on verification methods and tools.
  • Collaborate with design, silicon validation, and cross-functional teams to integrate test technologies and processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Strong experience with ASIC verification methodologies and tools; object-oriented verification methodologies.
  • Must-have: Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in C++ and scripting/programming languages used in verification flows.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to lead verification projects and mentor engineers.
  • Preferred: Experience with in-house IP development and leading ASIC technical teams.
  • Preferred: DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (e.g., QAM), C++ templates.
  • Preferred: Lab silicon validation experience and formal verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).
  • Preferred: Track record of innovation that produced measurable improvements.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications state: Bachelor's degree + 8 years related experience, or Master's degree + 6 years related experience, or PhD + 3 years related experience, or equivalent related work experience. No specific fields of study or certifications are listed; the posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a listed degree.
