Job Title

Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Work on Acacia mixed-signal ICs for high-speed optical transceivers (100G–1.6T+) in a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA. You will develop analog/mixed-signal circuits that integrate with digital/DSP, package and module teams and move designs from concept to production.

Small, collaborative IC design team focused on high-speed, high-accuracy analog designs for optical communications across data center and long-haul markets.

Experience Level

Senior. Minimum: Bachelor’s + 8 years, Master’s + 6 years, or PhD + 3 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Architect, design, simulate and lay out high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits for optical transceivers.
  • Lead a large block on complex chips; track deliverables and mentor junior engineers.
  • Participate in peer design reviews and enforce robust design methodology from concept through production.
  • Collaborate with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to meet integration, signal and power integrity requirements.
  • Work with packaging and hardware teams to ensure SI/PI specifications are achieved.
  • Define and execute laboratory validation, measurement and characterization plans.

Requirements

Must-have experience and skills:

  • Design, simulation and measurement of high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas:
    • High-speed serial links (serializers, deserializers, ADC/DAC)
    • Modeling for system link simulations
    • High-performance output drivers
    • High-performance phase-locked loops (PLLs)
    • Clock transmission/propagation
    • Op amps and programmable gain amplifiers
    • Equalization techniques
  • Experience with ultra-deep-submicron CMOS design and characterization over PVT.
  • Proven ability to lead complex IC design efforts, mentor team members, and meet schedules.
  • Practical laboratory validation and measurement experience; familiarity with ESD practices and test setups.
  • Proficiency with design and simulation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/SpectreX/APS, Calibre, EMX, AMS mixed-signal simulations, and Matlab.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
  • FinFET and GAA technology experience.
  • High-frequency layout and floorplanning experience, including passives and transmission lines.
  • Design-for-manufacturability experience: electromigration, self-heating, IR drop analysis.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 8 years related experience, Master’s degree + 6 years related experience, or PhD + 3 years related experience.
