Job Title

Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia

Role Summary

Hybrid position (three days per week onsite in San Jose, CA) on the Acacia mixed-signal IC design team developing high-speed analog and mixed-signal CMOS circuits for optical transceivers (100G–1.6T+).

Responsible for architecture, design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog blocks and for cross-functional collaboration with digital/DSP, package, system and module teams.

Experience Level

Senior β€” the posting specifies senior-level experience (see Education Requirements for degree/years guidance) and responsibility for leading large design blocks and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

Primary duties:

  • Architect, design, simulate, layout and validate high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC blocks for optical transceivers.
  • Lead efforts on large or complex blocks, establish design methodology, and track deliverables through to production.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers; participate in peer design reviews.
  • Collaborate with digital/DSP, packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
  • Develop and execute laboratory validation and characterization plans; support productization and manufacturability activities.

Requirements

Core technical requirements and relevant tools/experience.

  • Must-have: Proven experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three of the following: high-speed serial links (SERDES, ADC/DAC), link modeling, high-performance output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock distribution, op amps/programmable gain amplifiers, or equalization techniques.
  • Must-have: Practical experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, AMS simulation flows, and layout validation tools (Virtuoso, Calibre).
  • Must-have: Hands-on laboratory validation experience, including ESD practices and building test setups.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with FinFET/GAA technologies and high-frequency layout practices (floorplanning, routing, passives, transmission lines).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in design-for-manufacturability and reliability analyses (PVT characterization, electromigration, self-heating, IR drop) and EM extraction tools (EMX); Matlab experience is a plus.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of related experience, or Master's plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years of related experience (as stated in the minimum qualifications).
