Job Title
Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia
Role Summary
Member of the Acacia mixed-signal IC design team responsible for architecting, designing, laying out, measuring and productizing high-speed analog/mixed-signal CMOS transceivers for optical communications.
This is a hybrid role performed three days per week from the San Jose, CA office and involves cross-functional collaboration with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams.
Experience Level
Senior — senior-level role; typically requires 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end development of complex AMS IC blocks and for driving deliverables from concept through production.
- Architect, design, simulate, layout and characterize high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits in deep-submicron CMOS.
- Lead design efforts for large, complex IC blocks and participate in peer design reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and track technical deliverables to schedule.
- Collaborate with package, hardware and system teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop test plans, validate designs in the lab, and support productization and manufacturing readiness.
Requirements
Technical must-haves and preferred skills for successful performance in this role.
- Proven experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed ICs; experience must cover at least three of the technical areas listed below.
- Relevant technical areas include: high-speed serial links (SERDES, ADC/DAC), high-performance output drivers, high-performance PLLs, efficient clock transmission/propagation, opamps/programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
- Experience with high-speed AMS circuit design for optical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications preferred).
- Layout expertise for high-frequency designs including floorplanning, routing for power/ground and analog/digital separation, and passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Design-for-manufacturability experience: PVT characterization, electromigration, self-heating, and IR-drop analysis.
- Laboratory validation experience including ESD practices and building test setups.
- Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in small teams.
- Nice-to-have: experience with FinFET/GAA technologies and familiarity with Cadence (Virtuoso), Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Calibre, EMX, AMS simulation flows and MATLAB.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications specified by the employer: Bachelor's degree + 8 years of related experience, or Master's degree + 6 years of related experience, or PhD + 3 years of related experience.
