Job Title
Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Work on mixed-signal ICs for high-speed optical transceivers (100Gβ1.6T+) as part of the Acacia mixed-signal design team. The role covers architecture, circuit design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep-submicron CMOS designs.
This is a hybrid role with an expectation of three days per week in the San Jose, CA office; you will collaborate with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams.
Experience Level
Level: Senior. The posting indicates an experienced engineer (multi-year industry experience expected; see Education Requirements for the specific experience-by-degree guidance).
Responsibilities
The role focuses on leading and delivering complex mixed-signal ASIC blocks for optical communication transceivers.
- Architect, design, layout, and characterize high-speed analog and mixed-signal circuits for optical transceivers.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; set and track deliverables.
- Mentor and review work from other team members; perform peer design reviews and establish design methodology.
- Collaborate with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to ensure integration and meet signal/power integrity targets.
- Develop test plans, perform measurements, and support productization from prototype to production.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven experience designing, simulating, and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serial link serializers/deserializers and data converters; modeling for system link simulations; high-performance output drivers; high-performance PLLs; clock transmission/propagation; op amps and programmable gain amplifiers; equalization techniques.
- Experience with design, layout and productization of ultra-deep-submicron CMOS mixed-signal circuits for high-speed applications.
- Ability to lead complex mixed-signal blocks, coordinate milestones, and work across disciplines (package, hardware, digital/DSP).
- Hands-on measurement and laboratory validation experience for analog/mixed-signal ICs.
Nice-to-have / preferred
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
- Experience in FinFET and GAA technologies and high-frequency layout (floorplanning, power/ground, analog/digital routing, passives, transmission lines).
- Design-for-manufacturability experience: characterization across PVT, electromigration, self-heating, IR drop analysis.
- Laboratory validation skills including ESD methodology and building test setups.
- Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Calibre layout verification, EMX, AMS simulations, and Matlab.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications (as stated in the posting): Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, Master's degree plus 6 years related experience, or PhD plus 3 years related experience. The posting does not specify required fields of study or certifications.
