Job Title
Analog IC Design Engineer
Role Summary
This role is part of the IC development team based in Stansted (UK) and Ottawa (Canada), focused on high-speed transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and laser driver (LD) ICs for data-centre and telecom applications. The engineer will contribute to circuit and block-level analogue design from concept through validation and volume production and will report to the Design Centre Manager.
Experience Level
Entry-level β 0β2 years of relevant industry experience in analogue IC design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Own circuit and block-level analogue designs to meet performance, power, area, and reliability targets.
- Support chip development and take ownership of key analogue subsystems within larger IC programmes.
- Collaborate with layout engineering to address post-layout performance, parasitics, and optimisation.
- Support verification, lab validation and bring-up to correlate simulations with measurements.
- Work cross-functionally with Product, Test, Verification, Reliability, and Marketing teams to align system requirements.
- Develop innovative circuit solutions and improve analogue design methodologies and architectures.
- Present technical work, support design reviews, and contribute to maintaining programme schedules.
Requirements
Must-have:
- 0β2 years of industry experience in analogue IC design.
- Strong understanding of CMOS/BiCMOS analogue circuit design principles and semiconductor device physics.
- Solid grounding in circuit theory, device behaviour, and design trade-offs (performance, power, area).
- Experience with Cadence design and simulation tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred:
- Exposure to RF / high-speed analogue design (10 GHz+).
- Experience with laser driver and/or TIA circuit design.
- Understanding of RF/analogue layout principles (floorplanning, parasitics, matching, ESD, crosstalk, IR drop).
- Experience with high-frequency passive design and 3D modelling techniques.
- Familiarity with device modelling (Verilog-AMS, SystemVerilog) and DFM/yield/reliability principles.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline is required. A Master's degree (MSc) or specialised analogue IC design training is preferred. No explicit alternative "equivalent experience" language is stated.
